New Year's Eve Ball Grows Bigger and Brighter

The Times Square ball will this year double in size, get three times brighter and become a year-round installation

Well every year, the ball that drops on new years eve gets a slightly new design with more lights, more sparklers, and more fireworks around it. However this year, the new ball has doubled in size (from 6 feet across to 12 feet) which means more surface area for LED lighting! There are over 32,000 LED lights surrounding the Ball. With the ad ditional lights, comes additional weight.
The old ball weighed over just 1000 pounds. The new design weighs in at over 12,000 pounds.
